The Quadratic Formula: How to Use the Discriminant to Determine Roots ?

The discriminant is part of the quadratic formula. It is the part that appears under the square root symbol and tells you what kind of roots are part of the quadratic equation.
When you plug in the values a, b and c into the quadratic formula, there are three possibilities. Refer to the example below to see how to use the discriminant to determine roots.
